Saw The Dark Knith with [livejournal.com profile] damiondead, [livejournal.com profile] princessdammitt, [livejournal.com profile] isara, Jen and Bill, in the old theater of the Alameda cinema complex. They did a credible restoration job, and the presentation (once it was in focus) was pretty good. OTOH, there was a guy from the IATSE picketing out front (it's a non-uiion shop). Starting the trailers out of focus didn't hurt his cause..

Pico-review: Wow. Not shiny at all, rather explode-y.

In the first Batman movie, which was the last appearance of the Joker on film, everything was all shiny and caricature-y. Definitely not in _The_Dark_Knight_. The joker -is- a real psychopath, most of the cops are crooked, and Batman is Not Nice. About the only truly good person is probably the prisoner on the boat.

Also, there's enough "fantasy" to take it out of the standard action/adventure/shoot-em-up genra, which is good, since I don't usually like them. Batman's bike is tres cool, even if the tires are too wide.

Lots of pyrotechnics. Must have been a hoot for the pyro techs.

After, we went down to Tuckers for ice cream. They still have mango ice cream, which rocks. They do not have manga ice cream, which would not.
